History
At Prospect Hill Infant and Nursery School we intend to use our history curriculum to help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world and inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past.
As our pupils progress they will become equipped to ask perceptive questions, and think critically. We want pupils to understand the differences of people’s lives in the past and the present, the process of change, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
Intent
To build a curriculum which develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge in history.
To design a history curriculum with appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding
To build a history curriculum that supports and develops communication and quality interactions.
Implemenation

The promotion of a language rich History curriculum is essential to the successful acquisition of knowledge and understanding in history. The promotion and use of an accurate and rich historical vocabulary throughout school is planned for on the long term plans.
2 Year Cycle - Our curriculum is taught on a two year cycle (Year A and Year B) for each year group
Topics are taught over each half term, starting with a launch activity day that ‘hook’ children’s interest. At least one of these hooks should be linked to history. After the initial ‘hook’, children will then be immersed within this topic for the remainder of the half term through Creative and critical thinking areas/challenges/activities children will be encouraged to have ownership over their curriculum and lead their own learning in history.
Through the curriculum drivers ( creative and critical thinking, well-being, outdoor learning and cultural experiences) all children will be exposed to a fully immersive history curriculum to develop their learning. (See Curriculum Drivers for History Document)
