Children are encouraged to write for a purpose at home using grammar and punctuation taught at school.  Children are encouraged to use capital letters, full stops, commas and other high level punctuation when ready.

Compound Words

Compound words are made when two words are joined to form a new word. It is important that the two words make sense on their own and that the new word makes sense as well. The two words must also be complete.

Examples of compound words - hand + bag = handbag, lady + bird = ladybird
